Spirituality in Medical Curriculum

Along with memorizing body parts and learning to diagnose and treat diseases, students in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences are being introduced this fall to a new set of courses incorporating spirituality into their training to become physicians. Fourth year students can select a popular elective, "Faith, Medicine, and End-of-Life Care."

Clergy and faith leaders can also enhance their understanding of issues related to end-of- life care. Hospice College of America offers an online course developed by the Hospice Foundation of America in cooperation with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and The Center on Aging at Florida International University. Engaging Faith Communities in End-Of-Life Care.

Hello. This is Rev. Maria Dancing Heart Hoaglund, a hospice bereavement and spiritual counselor and UCC minister in the Puget Sound Area who has published a work called "THE LAST ADVENTURE OF LIFE: Sacred Resources for Transition." This is a work with a universal perspective, helping people to overcome fears and doubts about death, grief, and the afterlife. It includes various material from all walks of life -- inspirational stories, poetry, scripture, guided meditations, poetry, and the like. It is an easy-to-use coffee-table style book that many hospice volunteers and staff are appreciating. Some community colleges are even using my book as a text book for their Death & Dying, Life & Living classes. Please have a look at my website, www.thelastadventureoflife.com for details. At this time I'm releasing the last 100+ books of my first edition, as Findhorn Press of Scotland will be publishing a 2nd edition next spring. If you're interested in ordering copies (12 bks. in a box -- $180, or 1 bk. for $15.55 plus $2 shipping) for your organization, please call me at (888)409-1678. I accept credit cards, and I can also send you a copy or two with invoice included. Blessings on all your good work! And have a most meaningful holyday season.
