HFA’s 2011/2012 “Lunch 'n Learn” programs began October 5, 2011.  Each program examines a different topic to meet the diverse need of hospices and communities around the country.  Then each one will be available for up to a year after its initial live air date.  The cost is $85 per program for hospice (or other) organizations or $35 per program for individuals.  CEs are available at a cost of $10/person.  Register online now to make sure you don’t miss out on these timely and helpful topics! (Or register by mail/fax with this form.)    

  • Grieving Children: How You Can Help

    Grieving ChildrenIn this program, clinicians will be offered proven approaches and techniques that can support and comfort the sometimes invisible population of grieving children.  Participants will have a chance to hear discussions of time-tested literature as well as newer research, and at the same time hear from clinicians who have a wealth of experience in counseling grieving children and their families.     David A. Crenshaw, PhD is a licensed psychologist, Board Certified in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), and Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology.  He is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor by the Association of Play Therapy and Cop-Founder and current President of the New York Association for Play Therapy. Dr. Crenshaw is the author of several books.

    Ken Doka, PhD, MDiv, is Professor of Gerontology at the Graduate School of The College of New Rochelle, and Senior Consultant to the Hospice Foundation of America.  A prolific author and editor, Dr. Doka serves as editor of HFA’s Living with Grief ® book series, its Journeys newsletter, and numerous other books and publications. In addition, Dr. Doka has served as a panelist on HFA’s Living with Grief® teleconference programs for 18 years.

    Pamela Gabbay, MA, FT, is the Director of Mourning Star Centers and Programs in Palm Desert, California and Camp Director for Camp Erin - Palm Springs. Ms. Gabbay is on the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for Grieving Children. She is a contributing author at Open to Hope. Ms. Gabbay was awarded the Fellow in Thanatology by the Association for Death Education and Counseling.

  • Caregiver Burnout/Compassion Fatigue: How It Affects Professionals – and How to Beat It

    Mary Vachon, PhD, RN is currently a consultant and psychotherapist in a private practice, associate professor in the department of psychiatry and public health sciences at the University of Toronto, and clinical consultant at Wellspring – a community based support program for people with cancer which she co-founded.

    Robin Fiorelli is Senior Director of Volunteer and Bereavement Services at VITAS Healthcare Corporation, where she develops, standardizes and implements VITAS’ volunteer and bereavement services nationwide. Fiorelli is recognized as a national expert on issues related to grief, loss and bereavement, particularly as they are affected by religious, ethnic, racial and cultural factors.
