Message from David Abrams, President
------------------------------------------------------------
On April 30, HFA will broadcast its Tenth Anniversary National
Bereavement Teleconference, "Living With Grief:
Coping With Public Tragedy." Over the last ten years,
the teleconference has come to be recognized as the
leading grief and bereavement training program in the country, having
reached more than a half million professionals in
communities across the US and Canada. We thank
everyone who has participated and plans to join us
this year and hope we'll continue to learn from each
other to provide the best support possible to those
facing death and grief.
------------------------------------------------------------
Focus on: HFA Supporters and Partners
------------------------------------------------------------
The following organizations are all doing important work
in the field of end-of-life care and grief. We are
grateful to them for their support of our 10th annual
National Bereavement Teleconference.
Sponsored in part by a grant from:
The Foundation for End-of-Life Care, whose goal is to transform
dying into the final act of living well. The Foundation
is committed to improving end-of-life care for
individual patients and their families while supporting
fundamental, societal change and will champion this
change through research, education and advocacy.
Last Acts is a campaign to improve end-of-life care by a
coalition of professional and consumer organizations. Read the text of the recent report,
"Means to
a Better End: A Report on Dying in America Today"
and learn more about other
initiatives. [Note: This campaign has ended.]
In cooperation with:
The Adventist Communication Network, which will broadcast
the teleconference live over its national network with
more than 1,300 satellite locations. Many members of
the ACN will make their facilities available to local
groups who wish to host a teleconference site in their
communities. To find the nearest Adventist
Communication Network site and check availability,
call ACN at 1-877-223-8368.
The Association for Death Education and
Counseling, a multi-disciplinary
professional organization dedicated to promoting
excellence in death education, bereavement counseling,
and care of the dying.
The Compassionate
Friends, a national nonprofit, self-help
support organization that offers friendship and
understanding to bereaved parents, grandparents and
siblings.
The Project on Death in America of the Open Society
Institute,
whose mission is to understand and transform the
culture and experience of dying and bereavement
through initiatives in research, scholarship, the
humanities, and the arts, and to foster innovations in
the provision of care, public education, professional
education, and public policy.

HFA Featured Resource
------------------------------------------------------------
HFA has a number of resources that focus on specific aspects
of bereavement. The losses and grief associated with
Alzheimer's Disease brings about unique and ongoing
challenges. In an article written in conjunction with
last year's teleconference on "Loss in Later
Life", author Lin Noyes wrote about how
healthcare
professionals can help families face these difficult
situations.

Locate a Teleconference Site
------------------------------------------------------------
If you are an individual interested in attending the HFA
Tenth Annual Teleconference broadcast in April, you
can locate a site in your area.
Please be sure to contact the local site coordinator listed
for information about attending the teleconference at
his or her location. Some sites have limited space and
a reservation must be made with the local site
coordinator. Individual attendees do not need to
register with Hospice Foundation of America. If there
is no site listed in your area, check back as new
sites are added regularly.
------------------------------------------------------------
Site Coordinator's Corner
------------------------------------------------------------
Site Coordinators should have received the Satellite Coordinates
