Message from David Abrams, President
and CEO
Thanks to all of you who joined us last week for our 13th annual
National Bereavement Teleconference. “Pain Management: Bridging the Gap
Between Knowledge and Practice” was seen by our largest audience to
date. We were pleased to discuss these important issues with our
knowledgeable panel and our participants across the US and Canada, and
are grateful to all of you who joined us. Those who attended the
teleconference are invited to help us evaluate the program and influence
future programs by taking a brief survey. Five participants will be
selected to receive a complimentary copy of our award-winning resource,
“A Guide to Recalling and Telling Your Life Story.” Go to our website at
www.hospicefoundation.org and follow the link on the right-hand side for
the Participant Survey.

Focus on: HFA’s Educational Programs
Hospice Foundation of America is committed to providing high-quality
educational programs to health care professionals and consumers. We’re
pleased that we’ve already heard from some of our participants that the
program is achieving some of the goals that we have set:
- “This conference can be a catalyst for dialogue between professions
that results in improved patient care.”
- “This teleconference serves as a nice refresher when working with the
interdisciplinary team on how to work better together in meeting the
best needs/interests of the patient.”
- “Excellent broadcast - teleconference gave me valuable information I
can share when needed with other staff members to assure our residents
receive adequate pain care.”
HFA’s
“Taking Action” Tip Sheet
offers excellent suggestions on Things to Do and Things to Know
regarding pain management at the end of life.
We hope you join us again for the 2007 teleconference, when we will
examine “Living With Grief: Before and After the Death.” Watch next
month’s e-newsletter for more information.
This year’s 2006 teleconference will be available soon in DVD format,
both in a full-length version and a one-hour version. Orders for these
DVDs and other resources can be ordered
via our website
or by calling us at

What’s New @HFA

is the only comprehensive Internet-based hospice locator service that
covers all of North American and U.S. territories. The free service,
located at www.hospicedirectory.org, will bring referral sources,
families and patients needing services directly to hospice providers.
Hospice directory.org is the most comprehensive North American directory
of hospices, phone numbers, locations, and services. Hospices can easily
create a free profile online, to help them reach potential consumers and
referral services at no cost and direct potential clients to their own
website. For more information on the directory, please contact hdadmin@hospicefoundation.org
