HFA Announces Grants to Support Grieving Children and Adolescents
Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) has announced the recipients of its 2009 grants program. Read the press release here and view information about the five organizations below.
Gerard's House
Santa Fe, NM
Gerard’s House supports grieving children and teens during a time of crisis. It is the only organization in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico offering broad, long-term grief support to young people.
$5000 in support of Supporting Grieving Native American Youth program and summer activities for bereaved children and adolescents
T.A.P.S. (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors)
Washington, DC
TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) is the only nonprofit that administers peer-based emotional support programs to all those grieving the death of a loved one while serving in the military.
$5000 for play therapy supplies and other materials for 18 Good Grief Camps for Young Survivors programs for military children
Hospice of the Upstate
Anderson, SC
Hospice of the Upstate was founded 20 years ago to provide compassionate care for the terminally ill and their families. The Children’s outreach programs of Hospice of the Upstate provide grief support for children faced with the loss of a loved one, regardless of their family’s financial position.
$5000 to enable Hospice of the Upstate to introduce Play Therapy curriculum and materials into children’s bereavement programs
Calvary Hospital
Bronx, NY
Calvary Hospital is the nation’s only fully accredited acute care specialty hospital singularly devoted to providing palliative care to adult, advanced cancer patients without regard to race, religion, or economic status. Calvary’s bereavement programs for young children and adolescents are designed to offer support for young people who have been affected by the devastating loss of a loved one.
$5000 in support of a week-long bereavement camp for children and adolescents, as well as ongoing bereavement support groups
Hospice of Siouxland
Sioux City, IA
Hospice of Siouxland began serving patients and families in 1981. They added a comprehensive children’s grief support program in 2004.
$5000 for their Bereavement Diversity Outreach Program, to improve services to bereaved children and adolescents raised in homes where English is a second language.
