Two healthcare professionals, Guadalupe Pacheco (a Department of Health and Human Services special assistant) and Dorotea Gonzalez (nurse at Capital Hospice in Virginia), discuss the importance of delivering medical information in a language that the patient understands. Both agree that, whenever possible, professional translators or bilingual staff members should be used rather than family members. Millie Ye Yip, whose mother was cared for by hospice, shares her gratitude that her mother was able to be talk directly with hospice professionals in Cantonese.
