Title: Horror (watercolor and marker on paper)
Artist: Jose Querdo
Organization: St. Mary's Center in Oakland
Info: (2004): "I was in a deep depression and stayed in bed for three days. On the fourth day I painted Horror. When the bottom fell out for me, it felt deeper than any ocean, and raged more than any waves. I saw a purple, red, orange gloomy sky and raging sea with rugged blue-silver capped waves.

I thought about committing suicide by jumping off the black cliff and into these waves. I wanted the power of the waves to beat me against the rocks. I didn't have the strength to jump.

Instead of committing suicide, I expressed what was in my mind in this painting. Through art-making I manifest and relieve the delusional thoughts and feelings of suicide.
