According to the Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org), approximately 4 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease. One in 10 persons over 65 and nearly half of those over 85 have Alzheimer's. An estimated 14 million Americans will have Alzheimer's disease by the middle of this century (2050) unless a cure or prevention is found.

Loss and grief are a significant part of dealing with Alzheimer's, from diagnosis until death. In our 2004 Teleconference, we will explore the grief experience of persons in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, as well as grief issues that are experienced by family members throughout the illness and subsequent death. Hospice can play a significant role in offering end-of-life care to persons with Alzheimer's disease. As in all of our teleconferences, we will provide helping strategies that may be useful in assisting both patients and their families, and the professional caregivers.

The teleconference is broadcast over an analog signal on both C-band and KU-band satellites. If you are unable to locate a facility offering this capability, there are other options:

Fixed Satellite Networks

If you are not using a moveable satellite dish but plan to access the teleconference from a fixed dish or satellite subscriber network such as VHA, HSTN, or LTCN, please contact HFA's office, 1-800-854-3402, to verify program availability. You should not assume your subscription networks will broadcast the teleconference.

Adventist Communication Network (ACN)

We are pleased to have the ACN working with us to make the teleconference available to as wide an audience as possible. The teleconference will be broadcast live over this national network with more than 1,300 satellite locations. Many members of the ACN network will make their facilities available to local groups who wish to host the program and need satellite access. To find information about an ACN site near you, please contact the ACN service center at 1-800-226-1119.
